Our Team

Extract’s approach to investment requires intellectually motivated and highly skilled professionals. With extensive relationships in the sector, in-house technical knowledge of the mining and energy sectors, and corporate finance skills, Extract has the right team to succeed. Each of our investment personnel’s backgrounds, experiences, and skill sets brings a  unique perspective. All three members of the investment team have worked together since inception of the Fund.

Darin Milmeister

With over twelve years of experience investing in natural resources Darin currently serves as managing partner at Extract Capital, overseeing all of its activities. In the past 11 years, Darin has invested exclusively in the junior resource sector and built extensive relationships within the industry.

In 1999 Darin began his career at Deustche Banc Alex Brown in leveraged finance. As an Analyst, he helped to provide credit facilities for both healthy companies and companies undergoing financial restructuring including reorganizations. From 2002 to 2010, he worked as Senior Analyst and Director at Delaware Street Capital in New York. Delaware Street led corporate restructurings at a steel company in Ontario and a fertilizer company based in Mississippi.  By 2006, Darin was responsible for managing the basic industry equity portfolio of Delaware Street. In 2011, Darin founded Extract Capital and the fund launched on March 7, 2012.

The distinctive and conservative perspective Darin applies to the resource industry reflects his credit background. In a sector that relies on sunk capital, Darin’s approach balances potential rewards with the inherent risks of being a price taker and having large fixed costs. His immersion in the sector since 2006 provides extensive experience, yet he has a broad perspective of the market that he gained during his tenure as a generalist.

Currently, Darin resides in New York City, and holds a BS BA in Business Administration, Finance and Accounting from Georgetown University.

Krystal Ramsden

As a mineral engineer, Krystal has analyzed the profitability of producing mines and the feasibility of potential mines from an investment and capital markets perspective throughout her career. As Mining Engineer at Extract, she provides in-house technical expertise reviewing all public and private investment opportunities in the mining and oil & gas sectors.

Early in her career, Krystal gained field experience as a junior geologist at True North Gems, exploring for emeralds in the Yukon, and through a work term with Suncor Energy in the Canadian oil sands. She has since utilized her skill set providing opinions of publicly listed mining companies as a research associate at Cormark Securities and GMP Securities from 2007 to 2008 and 2008 to 2011, respectively. There she covered companies that produced and/or explored for gold, base metals and specialty resources. In 2011, she moved to the buy side, working with a Toronto-based junior resource fund and in 2012, she joined Extract Capital.

Bringing significant value in evaluating potential mining and oil & gas investments, Krystal’s technical expertise allows detailed and unbiased assessment independent of the promotional highlights of companies. With a keen ability to identify key risks of projects Krystal enables Extract to invest in projects with confidence.

Currently, Krystal resides in the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario and holds a B.A. Sc. in Mineral Engineering from the University of Toronto.

Ethan Park

With eight years of experience in capital markets and private investments, Ethan currently serves as a financial analyst at Extract. In this role, he reviews public and private investment opportunities in the power and infrastructure, agriculture, and mining support sectors while assisting in conducting due diligence and structuring deals for private investments.

From Rothschild he transitioned to the buy side in 2009 as a senior analyst at a private equity firm specializing in due diligence and acquisition of international real estate assets. In 2011, Ethan co-founded Javelin Partners, a firm providing corporate finance and development advice to junior mining firms. At the same time, Ethan was a founding member of Extract Capital.

With his experience, Ethan brings a unique skillset in assessing the risk-reward of potential investments and de-risking them by combining his experience advising capital deployment from corporate, private equity and public equity perspectives, deal structuring and corporate finance knowledge as well as experience in assessing various power and infrastructure investment opportunities.

Currently, Ethan resides in Toronto, Ontario and holds an Honors Business Administration degree from Richard Ivey School of Business.
